MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION Medical name of a Heart attack is known as Myocardial Infarction. This is a life threatening condition which occurs when blood flowing to the heart muscles is disrupted causing tissue damage. This generally happens due to blockage in one or more coronary arteries. Inside the coronary artery plaque built up takes place which is made up of fat, cholesterol and cellular waste products. Symptoms of Acute MI :- Most common symptoms are breathlessness and chest pain. • Pressure or tightness in the chest. • Pain in back, jaws and other upper body parts that lasts for few minutes or in ON & OFF condition, repeatedly. • Sweating on face and body. • Nausea • Vomitting • Anxiety • Cough • Dizziness • Fast pules rate. Causes of Myocardial Infarction :- Coronary arteries take oxygen rich blood to various organs of the body including Heart muscles. Significant decline of blood flow to the heart is due to plaque built up in the arteries which causes Heart attack. There are also several other factors which causes blockages in the coronary arteries. Bad Cholesterol :- LDL [Low Density Lipo-protein] is also called Bad Cholesterol and is one of the most leading reasons to cause blockages in the coronary arteries. What is cholesterol? Its a colourless substance found in our regular food. Even body generates natural cholesterol. LDL sticks inside the inner surfaces of coronary arteries which often produces plaque. This plaque is a hard substance which reduces the flow rate of blood flowing to the heart. The blood platelets which helps blood in clotting an injury or cut gets sticked at this plaque region and builds up inner layer which further causes blockages. Transfat :- This fat is artificially produced and can be found in a variety of processed foods. This is often listed on food labels as hydrogenated oil. This fat contributes further inner built-up inside coronary arteries to blockages. Saturated Fats : - Saturated fats are found in dairy products like butter and cheese apart from meat and beef. These fats contribute in plaque building causing blockages in coronary arteries. These fats not only increase bad cholesterol in the blood system but also reduce good cholesterol. High Blood Pressure : - Chances of Heart attack are more if you have High BP. Normal BP range is 120/80 mm of Hg. As this BP no. Increases risk of heart problems also increase. High BP not only damages the coronary arteries but also boost the plaque built-up inside the arteries causing blockages. High Cholesterol levels :- High cholesterol level leads to risk of Myocardial Infarction. You can lower this cholesterol level by changing your regular food diet and also by taking some medications like statins. High Tri-glyceride levels :- High Tri-glyceride levels increase chances of Heart attack. Triglycerides are type of fats which clog arteries. They travel through foods into your body towards the fatty cells. They contribute in building up plaques. 7 Orange Hospital is a multi-speciality 50 bed hospital located at Chapekar Chowk, besides Jain High School, Chinchwad; which includes 2 High end Operation theatres along with well equipped Cathlab which is operated by skilled healthcare professionals.
